CAMEROONIAN football legend Samuel Eto’o has reportedly reached an agreement to pay €90,000 to his daughter Erika in order to avoid prison.
Erika do Rosario Nieves was born after an affair between Eto’o and Cape Verdian Adileusa do Rosario Neves in Spain over 22 years ago.
Erika was declared to be Eto’o’s daughter by a Spanish court in 2022 following the Cameroonian Football Federation President’s initial refusal to accept her as his child.
Eto’o, now 42, was ordered by the judge to pay up the arrears of €1400 each month in child support, which he neglected for long.
However, Eto’o this week reached an agreement with Erika’s lawyers to pay the child support directly to her bank account, according to Marca and Tribuna.
Erika, who was born in 1999, wanted the former Barcelona superstar in prison, and demanded a 12-month jail sentence.
However, prosecutors did not go ahead with the sentencing as the recalcitrant former Indomitable Lions striker quickly agreed to pay up in order to avoid going to prison.
Eto’o met Erika’s mother at a Madrid nightclub in 1998 and she got pregnant the same year, giving birth to Erika in 1999. However, Eto’o neglected the child’s upkeep until the court case.
